ISLAMIC INTEGRATED EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM (IIES): A PROBLEM-CENTERED FRAMEWORK FOR FOSTERING MORAL STEWARDSHIP TOWARD SDG PLANETARY SUSTAINABILITY
Abstract
As humanity grapples with an environmental "poly-crisis" that threatens planetary stability, conventional
pedagogical models frequently fail to translate scientific awareness into transformative action. This study
proposes the Islamic Integrated Educational System (IIES) as a "Transcendental-Transdisciplinary"
framework designed to bridge the gap between ecological knowledge and moral responsibility. Drawing upon
Whitehead's "Philosophy of Organism" and the Islamic principle of Amanah (Trust), the research introduces
the Tree of Stewardship, a model where spiritual roots feed into a problem-centered learning process to achieve
the "Safe Earth" Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Utilizing a qualitative case study approach, the
study establishes that true integration must move beyond thematic units to address real-world environmental
"messy problems". A critical component of this efficacy is the Islamic-Based Teacher Education Programme
(IBTEP), which reframes educators as "negotiators" of knowledge capable of synthesizing revealed truths
with acquired scientific facts. The paper concludes with actionable policy recommendations for the Nigerian
government, advocating for curriculum reconstruction at the NERDC and inter-ministerial collaboration to
institutionalize value-based sustainability as a strategic necessity for national resilience
